The invention relates to the lubrication of stick diesel engines, for example slow stick diesel marine engines. Lubrication is carried out using a lubricant composition comprising a large amount of base oil as well as smaller amounts of an antiwear additive and an additive for extreme pressures. Good lubrication is achieved between metallic surfaces at high temperatures as well as at high contact pressures. The preferred compositions of the invention have a synergistic effect, and comprise an anti-wear additive of formula X = P (OR), in which X represents an oxygen or sulfur atom, and each R, which may be identical or different , represents a phenyl, tolyl or xylyl group, a halogenated derivative of such a group, tritolylphosphate, trixylylphosphate or triphenylphosphorothionate, the additive for extreme pressures being an organic sulfide. |
