The present invention relates to subtilisin gene mutations, some of which result in changes in the chemical characteristics of the subtilisin enzyme. Mutations are created for nucleic acids specific for the subtilisin gene and, in various specific embodiments, the mutant enzymes have altered chemical properties including, inter alia, increased oxidative stability, increased proteolytic activity and washing ability improved. The present invention also relates inter alia to the amino acid and DNA sequences for two proteases derived from variants of Bacillus lentus, subtilisin 147 and subtilisin 309, as well as mutations of these genes and the corresponding mutant enzymes. |
