The invention relates to a process for the preparation of 5H-dibenz [b, f] azepine of the formula by dehydrating 10,11-di- (hydro) -5H-dibenz [b, f] azepine of the formula in the presence of 1 or more noble metal catalyst (s) and hydrogen acceptor (s) and optionally solvent (s), in which the reaction in the melt or in 1 or more high-boiling polar protic solvent (s) or a mixture of 1 or more high-boiling polar protic solvent (s) and 1 or more apolar solvent (s) with a higher or higher boiling point (s) than that of the former at temperatures above 300 o C and when using the hydrogen acceptor or the hydrogen acceptors in amounts of 0.35 to 2 moles per mole of 10,11-di- (hydro) -5H-dibenz [b, f] azepine of the formula II is carried out. |
