abstract | In the case of an incremental measuring system, scanning a measuring graduation (2) with a scanning unit (3) generates periodic analog measuring signals which are sinusoidal in their basic form, and from them in a division stage (6) with electronic subdivision of the scale, digital counting signals dependent on the direction of adjustment for an evaluation device 10, 11) derived, each count signal being assigned to a specific phase position of the measurement signals. For the electronic correction of position errors, further signal levels offset by defined fractions of the division step are determined between the signal levels associated with the phase spacing of the subdivision points, and the evaluation of the measurement is optionally related to the offset signal levels according to a correction program, so that corrections are made only in fractions correction steps corresponding to the dividing step are carried out.
