The present invention relates to a substrate coated with a two-phase coating, obtainable by cathodic electrocoating of an electrically conductive substrate with a mixture comprising A) an aqueous cationic dispersion of a polymerization, polycondensation or polyaddition product B) an aqueous cationic dispersion of a polymerization, polycondensation or polyaddition product with a glass transition temperature of the polymer on which the dispersion is based between -80 and 20.degree. C., the polymers on which the dispersions (A) and (B) are based being incompatible with one another and C) a crosslinker, a pigment paste, additives and / or auxiliary substances, and subsequent branding.
