titleOfInvention | MULTILAYER MOLDABLE COMPOSITE LAMINATES AND PRODUCTION METHOD. |
abstract | Plastic composite laminate achievable in multiple layers, and its manufacturing process comprising preparing an acrylic compound comprising the reaction product of a mixture of predominant acrylic monomer and a substantially lower amount of a polymer thereof, at least one free radical reaction initiation reaction catalyst, and optionally a chain length regulating agent or a crosslinking agent. The method also includes deaerating the acrylic compound, pouring the deaerated acrylic compound onto a sheet or laminate of a thermoplastic material, and curing the cast acrylic compound in several successive steps so as to substantially polymerize the acrylic monomer and allow the penetration of said acrylic compound, preferably at a depth of between approximately 0.001 and 0.100 inch, into a thermoplastic material, in order to produce a laminate having a uniform and gradual acrylic / thermoplastic interphase, rather than a marked separation between the layers thereof ci, so as to prevent delamination during other processing operations. These laminates are then hot formed into various shaped articles. |
