abstract A catheter system for imaging wherein optical fibers within a catheter are used to illuminate tissue for diagnostic purposes. Both spectroscopic and visual displays of the tissue are generated simultaneously. Fluorescence and Raman spectra are used to determine the presence of atheromateous plaques on artery walls.
