titleOfInvention Image processing system
abstract An image processing system, comprising: a camera for taking a picture image of an object and producing a corresponding picture image signal; a binary discrimination circuit for converting the picture image signal into a binary signal; a memory unit for storing the binary signal; and feature extracting circuit for extracting a geometric feature of the picture image by processing the binary signal. Preferably, the feature extracting circuit comprises: an edge detection circuit having a hardware structure; and an arithmetic processing unit for computing, through a software process, geometric features from a graphic image included in the picture image of the object according to data on edge addresses. Thus, the processing speed is increased and the size and cost of the system is reduced by carrying out edge detection and address data collection requiring a large amount of processing work by means of a dedicated hardware circuit and carrying out arithmetic and other processes by means of software. Further, since the software of its arithmetic unit can be easily modified, the versatility of the processing work can be improved, and the range of application of the system can be broadened.
