titleOfInvention Low birefringent polyesters in optical devices
abstract There are disclosed low birefringent npolyesters that are useful in optical devices. The npolyesters include units having opposite optical nanisotropies. By varying the ratio of the units in nthe copolymer, the birefringence of an article made nfrom the copolymer can be controlled as desired. The npolyester is a substantially optically anisotropic npolyester having diol repeating units derived from n9,9-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)fluorene and at least about n40% by weight of the diacid repeating units derived nfrom aliphatic or cycloaliphatic dicarboxylic acids, nthe remainder of the diacid repeating units being nderived from aromatic dicarboxylic acids.
