titleOfInvention Process for the preparation of 3-methyl-2-pentyl-cyclopent-2-en-1-one
abstract In known processes, starting from 5-hexyl-5-methyldihydro-2 (3H) -furanone (gamma-methyl-gamma-decalactone) and its cyclodehydration, in principle solid phosphoric acid is used as the cyclodehydration reagent. Disadvantages are the large amount of reagent, long reaction times, the occurrence of corrosion and contamination of the waste water with organic compounds.n n n It has been found that the disadvantages of known processes are eliminated if a mixture of 5 to 20% by weight of phosphoric acid and a high-boiling mineral oil is used as the catalyst in the process and the product formed is continuously distilled off with the water of reaction formed.n n n Use as a fragrance.
