Process for the preparation of pulverulent polymers of acrylic acid and methacrylic acid by polymerizing (a) 100 to 70% by weight of acrylic acid, methacrylic acid or mixtures of acrylic acid and methacrylic acid and (b) 0 to 30% by weight of vinylsulfonic acid or its alkali metal salts in monovalent C₁-bis C₈ alcohols, water or mixtures of these solvents in a powder bed in the presence of polymerization initiators and - in each case based on the monomers used in the polymerization, 0.05 to 10 mol.% Of a thiocarboxylic acid and / or a mercapto alcohol and 0.05 to 10 mol % Propionic acid or formic acid as a regulator while maintaining the powder state during the polymerization, dissipating the heat of polymerization by distilling off the solvent and circulating the reaction mass. |
