MONOCLONAL ANTIBODIES AGAINST LENTIL EPITHELIC CELLS AND METHODS FOR PREVENTING THE PROPAGATION OF REMAINING LENS LENSING EPITHELIAL CELLS AFTER EXTRACAPSULAR EXTRACTION. |
abstract |
Cytotoxic compositions and methods for their use have been developed to prevent the proliferation of epithelial cells remaining from the lens after extracapsular extraction. The cytotoxic compositions include specific monoclonal antibodies against the epithelial cells of the lens, introduced into the anterior chamber of the eye where they specifically bind to any epithelial cells. The method can be used at the time of extracapsular cataract extraction, or it can be used later to remove a second cataract resulting from the proliferation of remaining epithelial cells from the lens. |
