abstract |
An electrochemical method of assay for determining theophylline in a sample comprises contacting the sample with an alkaline phosphatase and with a phosphate ester which is a substrate for the alkaline phosphatase and from which an electroactive compound can be released by catalytic activity of the alkaline phosphatase, electrochemically oxidising the electroactive compound, detecting current arising from the electrochemical oxidation, comparing the detected current with that obtained from a standardised electrochemical oxidation, and evaluating the level of theophylline in the sample. |
