abstract | A non-cylindrical carbon black reactor for consistnently and efficiently producing high tint carbon black. A nplurality of flat sides defines the inner surface of the carnbon black reactor. The flat sides provide a planar surface nfor the introduction of feedstock hydrocarbon into the nreactor, thereby eliminating or substantially reducing imnpingement of the feedstock hydrocarbon on the inner surnface of the reactor chamber and the consequent erosion of nthe inner surface. The flat sides of the inner surface of the nreaction chamber also provide a hot gas flow with a cross-nsectional area that substantially conforms to the spray patntern of the feedstock hydrocarbon, thereby providing a nminimum flame length within the reactor and a more effincient use of the hot gas. |
