titleOfInvention METHOD FOR INCREASING THE SAFETY OF METAL LIGAND CHELATES AS A MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING AND X-RAY RAY CONTRASTING AGENT.
abstract Paramagnetic chelates, such as gadolinium diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA), manganese, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), and others used as contrast agents for magnetic resonance imaging are much more toxic when injected at high concentration or at high speeds. The use of effective amounts of calcium in the form of calcium chloride, calcium gluconate, or balanced salt water solutions significantly reduces this toxicity without the need for additional ligand.
