The present invention is directed to a method for treatment of soapstock obtained by alkali refining of fats to provide a fluid, uniform, pumpable aninmal feed product. In the method, a raw soapstock is provided. Propionic acid is added to the raw soapstock and the pH is adjusted to provide an acidified soapstock. With soapstocks having low gum levels, a fluid, uniform, pumpable product is provided without further treatment. At higher gum levels, the acidified soapstock is heated to a predetermined temperature to provide the fluid, uniform, pumpable product. |
