abstract (A) Copolymerisieren von Monomergemischen aus n(a) 50 bis 99 Mol.% Acrylamid und/oder Methacrylamid, n(b) 50 bis 1 Mol.% eines Acetalgruppen enthaltenden monoethylenisch nungesättigten Monomeren und n(c) 0 bis 20 Mol.% von (a) und (b) verschiedenen Monomeren, nin Gegenwart von Polymerisationsinitiatoren unter solchen Bedingungen, ndaß die Acetalgruppen der Monomeren (b) praktisch nicht hydrolysieren, (B) Hydrolysieren der Acetalgruppen der in den Copolymerisaten (A) neinpolymerisiert enthaltenen Monomeren (b), (C) Kondensieren der Aldehydgruppen enthaltenden Copolymerisate (B) bei npH-Werten oberhalb von 5 bis höchstens zu einem solchen Grad, daß die nentstehenden Kondensate noch wasserlöslich sind und (D) Abstoppen der Kondensationsreaktion durch Zugabe von Säure bis auf npH-Werte von 3 oder darunter, Bridged, water-soluble copolymers that are obtainable by (A) copolymerization of monomer mixtures (a) 50 to 99 mol% of acrylamide and / or methacrylamide, (b) 50 to 1 mole% of a monoethylenically unsaturated monomer containing acetal groups and (c) 0 to 20 mol% of monomers different from (a) and (b), in the presence of polymerization initiators under conditions such that the acetal groups of the monomers (b) practically do not hydrolyze, (B) hydrolyzing the acetal groups of the monomers (b) contained in copolymerized form in the copolymers (A), (C) condensing the copolymers (B) containing aldehyde groups at pH values above 5 to at most to such a degree that the resulting condensates are still water-soluble and (D) stopping the condensation reaction by adding acid to pH values of 3 or below, n n n Process for the preparation of the bridged, water-soluble copolymersnand use of the bridged, water-soluble copolymers as an additivento the pulp in papermaking to increase the wet strengthnof paper.
