titleOfInvention Porous anodic aluminium oxide membranes
abstract An asymmetric anodic aluminium oxide membrane has two major surfaces with a system of larger pores extending in from one surface and communicating with a system of smaller pores extending in a distance s from the other surface. The membrane is characterized by having a thickened small pore region so that the distance s is greater than 1 micron. Thickening the small pore region is effected by interrupting the voltage reduction procedure used to detach the membrane from its metal substrate. When used as filters for e.g. phage or mycoplasma, the membranes are more reliably defect-free.
