abstract | In a process for the preparation of aqueous formaldehyde solutions, which consists of the following stages: a) reaction of a methanol / water / air mixture at a higher temperature on a catalyst, b) absorption of the reaction mixture in one or more absorbers connected in series to form a methanol-containing aqueous formaldehyde solution and c) fractional distillation of a fraction essentially containing methanol and water, at least a portion of the vapors still obtained from the fractional stilling is condensed with liquid water. This condensate is fed together with fresh methanol and air to the evaporator upstream of the catalyst stage. |
