Blocking, isolating and purifying calcium channels |
abstract |
A calcium channel composition is isolated from neuronal cell membranes by hydrophobic affinity chromatography. The affinity adsorbent used in the isolation technique is a calcium channel blocking factor derived from the venom of funnel web spiders. Three spiders producing this calcium channel blocking factor are Agelenopsis aperta, Hololena curta and Calilena. By subjecting neuronal cell membranes to this affinity chromatography method, the calcium channels obtained are essentially purified. |
