abstract The invention relates to a new process for the preparation of quinuclidine-3-methanol by reacting quinuclidin-3-one to the corresponding hydroxycyanhydrin, its esterification, dehydration of the hydroxy ester, hydrogenation and reduction, with quinuclidine-3-hydroxycyanhydrin via the imide ester stage to quinuclidine-3 -hydroxy-3-carboxylic acid methyl ester, the dehydration is carried out with thionyl chloride and the hydrogenation of the quinuclidine-3-carboxylic acid methyl ester is carried out with hydrogen using Raney nickel.
