abstract An intraocular lens consisting of a core of a polymer with a refractive index of 1.37 to 1.6 with the shape of a biconvex or plano-convex lens and a peripheral case covering one surface of the core either completely or only on its circum­ference and the other surface to a distance of atmost 2 mm from the core axis is produced by placing the core on a plane or rotationally symmetric curved casting surface, overcasting it with a monomer mixture in order to wet the lower surface of the core either completely or only in its circumferential part and the upper surface to a distance of atmost 2 mm from the core axis and then polymerizing the monomer mixture by thermal or photochemical polymerization.
