abstract Purines of 6-sulfenamide, 6-sulfinamide and 6-sulfonamide, purine nucleosides, purine nucleotides and their derivatives 3 and 7 desaza and 8 aza of structure (I), where Z is H or -HN2; X is -S-NH2, (II) or (III); G, T and Q are C-H or N; Y is H or an alpha pentofuranose or a beta pentofuranose of formula (IV) where R1 and R2 independently are H, OH, -O-acyl or (V), or together R1 and R2 are (VI), and R3 and R4 are H, or one of R3 or R4 is OH and the other is H; provided that when Y is H, Z is -NH2; and their pharmaceutically acceptable salts are prepared and are useful as anti-tumor agents or are intermediates for compounds which are anti-tumor agents. These compounds are used to treat a homeothermic host afflicted with a disease and serve as active ingredients in suitable pharmaceutical compositions.
