Probe for measuring concentration of dissolved gas |
abstract |
57 A probe for measuring the concentration of dissolved oxygen, which comprises a light-transmitting support having provided thereon a luminous material such as a tris(2,2'-bipyridine) ruthenium (II) complex and a carrier such as polyvinylpyrrolidone covered with an outer layer composed of a cured silicone polymer and which is used for optically measuring the concentration of gas dissolved in water or an aqueous medium such as blood. The concentration of gas dissolved in an aqueous medium is measured according to the following formula (1): lo/l = 1 + Kq.τ0[O2], wherein 1 0 represents luminous intensity in the substantial absence of oxygen molecules, I represents luminous intensitywhen oxygen concentration is [O 2 ], Kq represents a rate constant of quenching reaction, and To represents a luminescence life in the substantial absence of oxygen molecules. This probe shows excellent response to dissolved gas concentration, and undergoes less changes in sensitivity when used for a long time, thus being quite stable. In addition, its simple structure permits to reduce its size to such an extent that it can be provided atthetip of optical fibers to conduct the measurement in a small area such as an intravascular area. |
