There are described a novel stable ophthalmic ointment for the treatment of increased intraocular pressure in glaucoma patients, comprising a therapeutically effective amount of a peptidic ergot alkaloid of the formulan wherein nR₁ is hydrogen or halogen, nR₂ is hydrogen or alkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and n(i) nR₃ is isopropyl, sec. butyl or isobutyl, nR₄ is methyl, ethyl or isopropyl, and nR₅ is hydrogen and R₆ is hydrogen or methoxy or R₅ and R₆ together are a single bond, or n(ii) nR₃ is benzyl, R₄ is methyl, R₅ is hydrogen and R₆ is hydrogen or methoxy, nin the form of free base or in the form of a pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt, in a concentration between 0.005 and 0.05 % by weight in a topically applicable ophthalmic pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and other excipients, the use thereof in a method for the treatment of increased intraocular pressure in glaucoma patients and a process for preparing the same. |
