abstract | In a process for the preparation of geminal bromonitro alcohols by bromination of alkali metal salts or alkaline earth metal salts of nitro alcohols, it was desired to work at high concentrations on an industrial scale. This was achieved by circulating a mixture of bromine and aqueous hydrogen bromide solution through a heat exchanger and metering in the aqueous solution of the alkali metal salt or alkaline earth metal salt of a nitro alcohol upstream of the heat exchanger with cooling at such a rate that the maximum reaction temperature does not exceed 30 DEG C. |
