abstract Gem-disubstituted cyclohexadienone in which the gem nsubstituents are a perfluoroalkyl group and a trihydrocar­nbylsiloxy group are prepared by perfluoroalkylating a nquinone with a perfluoroalkyltrihydrocarbylsilane in the npresence of an active catalyst under essentially anhydrous nconditions, preferably in a suitable liquid phase reaction nmedium, most preferably in a dipolar aprotic solvent. nThese gem-disubstituted compounds are readily convertible nto perfluoroalkyl-substituted aromatics and thus provide a nmeans of circumventing the traditional need for photo-­nchlorination followed by halogen exchange in the prepara­ntion of such products.
