Method of reducing glial scar formation and promoting axon growth |
abstract |
The present invention relates to "activated" nimmature astrocytes and the method of utilizing nthe activated immature astrocytes in injectable nform, or on a nitrocellulose polymer, as a means nfor reducing secondary necrosis and glial scar fornmation in lesions in the brain and spinal cord as nwell as promoting directed axon and/or blood vesnsel growth or regeneration. The activated immanture astrocytes and pharmaceutical compositions ncomprising same, may be used to treat disorders of nthe nervous system resulting from accidents or disneases which have in some way damaged the nerve ntissue. |
