abstract A photomagnetic recording medium having excellent oxidation resistance and photomagnetic recording properties according to the present invention comprises a base material having provided thereon in order a photomagnetic recording membrane (I) and a reflective membrane (II), and is characterized in that the recording membrane (I) is a thin amorphous alloy film having an easily magnetizable axis vertical to the membrane surface and comprising (i) at least one 3d transition metal, (ii) a corrosion-resistant metal, and (iii) at least one element selected from among rare earth elements, with the conĀ­tent of the corrosion-resistant metal (ii) being 5 to 30 atomic %, and that the reflective membrane (II) comprises a metal or alloy having a thermal conductivity of up to 2 J/cm.sec.K. This recording medium has excellent oxidation resistance and photomagnetic properties.
