abstract A triggered barrier system comprises a plurality of self-contained units each incorporating a static presĀ­sure change sensor (38) which releases a spring (20) to cause a piston (18) forceably to eject particulate suppressant material from an hermetically-sealed chamber. Preferably, the piston rotates as it moves laterally so that angular momentum is imparted to the particles in order for them to be disĀ­persed more widely.
