titleOfInvention | (alpha)-HYDROPEROXYISOPROPYLPHENYL COMPOUNDS AND PROCESS FOR THEIR PREPARATION |
abstract | a-Hydroperoxyisopropylphenyl compounds are useful as organic hydroperoxide components of a testing composition for assaying a peroxide-activating substance, and are effectively used for detecting a peroxide-activating substance such as blood or hemoglobin (occult blood). A tester for detecting occult blood comprises a carrier impregnated with an organic hydroperoxide, a color indicator, a buffer, a wetting agent, an activating agent, and a stabilizer. When a hemoglobin-containing sample is tested with this tester, the organic hydroperoxide is activated to generate nascent oxygen which, in turn, oxidizes the indicator to develop color. 2,5-Dimethylhexane 2,5-dihydroperoxide and cumene hydroperoxide, which have conventionally been in practical use as the organic hydroperoxide have defects that they show such a poor stability with the lapse of time that they cause serious deterioration of detection sensitivity, that the presence of vitamin C in a sample leads to false negative detection, that, when used as one member of multi-item testing pieces for detecting urine ingredients, they discolor other pieces adjacent thereto to deteriorate testing functions, and that they show a poor sensitivity in developing color. The compounds of this invention are free from these defects. Typical examples thereof include 4-(2,4,7-trioxaoctyl)cumune hydroperoxide, 4-(a-hydroperoxyisopropyl)benzyl benzyl ether, 4-octylcumene hydroperoxide, bis(4-(a-hydroperoxyisopropyl)-benzyl) benzyl ether and N,N-dimethyt-4-(a-hydroperoxyiso- propyl)-benzenesulfonamide. |
