An integrated clutch control system for automatically controlling the engine speed in a predetermined manner during initial clutch engagement when starting a vehicle from rest. In particular, the control functions to prevent engine speeds above a predetermined constant idle speed until the clutch has been engaged to at least a predetermined point. The control can be utilized with either an automated mechanical transmission having an automatically engaged clutch, or a conventional transmission having a manually controlled clutch. Preferably, the control is utilized in conjunction with vehicle engines having an electronic engine govenor with isochronous idle. |
