titleOfInvention Process and apparatus for separating materials by electrophoresis
abstract The invention relates to a method and a device for two-phase electrophoresis, in which there are at least two liquids (2, 3) that are not completely miscible with one another in a separation space. Anode and cathode (5, 6) are arranged in different liquids, so that the mass transfer takes place under the effect of the electric field over the phase boundary (4). The absorbing liquid has the task of capturing the migrating particles (molecules or the like) and preventing migration back into the dispensing liquid. The separation can be carried out in different ways, discontinuously, semi-continuously or continuously with cocurrent or countercurrent flow of the liquids. A chromatographic separation can also be carried out.
