A method of estimation of systemic cholesterol concentrations from capillary blood samples |
abstract |
The invention relates to a method of estimating plasma cholesterol levels using small samples of blood and in particular to estimating levels of low-density lipoprotein in capillary blood. The method comprises providing a surface to which a sample of blood is applied, the surface carrying, either over a part or over its whole, anionic groups which have an affinity for low-density lipoprotein. The low-density lipoprotein in the applied blood sample binds to the surface and is subsequently measured by methods which detect either the protein component or the lipid component of the bound low-density lipoprotein. |
