abstract | An apparatus for investigating a sample (100) with nultrasound has a probe head (10) formed by a casing (4), na transducer element (7) of piezoelectric plastics nmaterial, and a source (2) for applying a high frequency npulse to the sample. The source (2) is preferably one nend of an optical fibre (1), which fibre (1) extends to a nlaser (9) remote from the probe head (10). The ntransducer element (7) is connected to the sample (100) nby an acoustic coupling medium (8), e.g. water. Thus, nthe probe head (10) can be moved relative to the sample n(100), and a compact, but efficient, structure is nachieved. |
