In the production of high performance ceramics by proceeding from fine-grained powder raw materials, the surface characteristics of the powder particles vary, which makes the forming step prior to sintering more difficult. In the process according to the present invention, particle surfaces are modified in a special process step comprising the treatment of the powder raw material with a metal alkoxide, for example Al alkoxide, in an organic solvent, followed by calcining, whereby powder sufaces similar to those of the corresponding metal oxide, oxyhydroxide or hydroxide powders are obtained. The modification makes it possible to diperse and form the same type of power raw materials with initially different surface characteristics, and/or to homogeneously mix powder raw materials which are different from the viewpoint of crystallographic modification. |
