titleOfInvention Polymeric intraocular lens material having improved surface properties and intraocular lens construction
abstract Intraocular lenses (10) comprising an optical part (20) made of polymeric material or glass coated with a fluorinated hydrocarbon polymer (22). A haptic element or device (21) of the lens is attached to the optical device. Thanks to the low energy surface of the lens thus obtained, the cells are damaged to a lesser extent when this surface comes into contact with the corneal endothelium. The fluorinated hydrocarbon polymer coating is preferably applied by exposing the surfaces of the lenses in question to a plasma formed from a fluorinated hydrocarbon monomer. The intraocular lens obtained damages the corneal endothelium cells much less during implantation.
