titleOfInvention Photocharacterization and treatment of normal, abnormal and ectopic endometrium
abstract The method and apparatus described allow for optical diagnosis and treatment of abnormal cells (14) through the use of chemical markers with hormonal specification which have a preference for genital tissue. Abnormal cells (14) can be distinguished from normal cells by the amount of fluorescent or thermal radiation produced (Fig 5) by the chemical marker retained in respective cells when irradiated by electromagnetic radiation (10) at a length of predetermined waves. As soon as the abnormal cells are detected, they can be treated using an optical technique based on photochemical (10) or thermal reactions that can be controlled, so as to destroy the abnormal cells without prejudice to normal cells.
