titleOfInvention Surface modified polymeric material article with an improved hemocompatibility an lower thrombogenicity, and method for making the same
abstract This article, intended to be employed in applications which require it to have a high haemocompatibility and a low thrombogenicity, consists of a polymeric material containing hydrogen atoms. It is characterised in that hydrogen atoms present on its exposed surface have been replaced by fluorine atoms or CF2 or CF3 groups so that the total fluorine represents at most 10% of the atoms present on this surface. It is obtained by a surface treatment of the article which is in its appropriate form for its use, with a plasma of nonpolymerisable fluorine-containing molecules under controlled conditions (duration: a few seconds to about 10 minutes; output power: 0.1 to 2 watts).
