abstract This article, intended for use in applications requiring it to have a high hemocompatibility and a low thrombogenicity, is made of a polymer material containing hydrogen atoms. It is characterized by the fact that hydrogen atoms present on its exposed surface have been replaced by fluorine atoms or CF₂ or CF₃ groups, so that the total fluorine represents at most 10% of the atoms present on this surface . It is obtained by surface treatment of the article in its form suitable for its use, with a plasma of fluorinated molecules which cannot be polymerized under gentle conditions (duration: a few seconds to ten minutes; emission power: 0.1 to 2 Watts).
