abstract An improved heat sterilizable blood bag system adapted for containing and mixing of different materials (16,18) originally placed in separate but potentially communicating compart­ments (2,6). The improvement comprises of having a smaller squeezable compartment (6) for one material (16) attached to and capable of communicating with a larger compartment (2) for the other material (18). The material (16) in the smaller compartment (6) is separated from the interior of the larger compartment (2) by means of an externally manipulatable closure means (14) which, when opened, permits mixture of the contents (16) in the first compartment (6) and contents (18) of the second compartment (2) when the smaller compartment (6) is repeatedly squeezed.
