titleOfInvention | Ion selective part of an arrangement for determining ion concentration and procedure for manufacturing hydrophilic groups containing polymeric materials |
abstract | The parts contain a polymeric material, an ion-selective component and possibly a plasticiser and are used to determine the concentration of ions in liquid media. The polymeric material in these ion-selective parts is a copolymer in which 5 - 25 mol % of the monomer units carry one or more hydrophilic substituents which are hydroxyl groups, carboxyl groups, sulpho groups and/or phosphono groups. The ion-selective parts have, by comparison with ion-selective parts whose polymeric material contains fewer or no hydrophilic groups, a greater constancy of the standard potential and a lower asymmetry potential or no asymmetry potential whatever. These properties of the ion-selective parts are also retained after they have come into contact with solutions which contain proteins and, accordingly, these ion-selective parts are suitable for use in devices for determining the concentration of ions in clinical chemistry, for example in whole blood, serum or plasma. n<??>The polymer components carrying hydrophilic groups are prepared by hydrolysing a corresponding homopolymer or copolymer in which the hydrophilic groups are present in protected form, for example as esters. |
