abstract Thermoplastic, branched, high-molecular weight polycarbonates endowed with properties of flame-­resistance (self-extinguishing polycarbonates) are characterized by the presence in their polymeric chain of units deriving from a di-hydroxy-aromatic compound having the formula:n wherein: nR is a single bond; or nis a substituted or non-substituted, linear or branched alkyl group containing from 1 to 5 carbon atoms; or nis a group selected from O, S, SO₂, CO; nX and Y are equal to, or different from, each other and stay for H or CH₃; n m and n are integers, equal to or different from each other, ranging from 1 to 4; n and of units deriving from a mono-halogenated tetra-­phenyl compound having the formula:n wherein: nR, R₂, R₄, R₆ stay for OH; nR₁, R₃, R₅, R₇, either equal to, or different, from one another, stay for OH, H, or a linear or branched alkyl group of from 1 to 5 carbon atoms.
