Es werden beschrieben Verfahren zur Herstellung dieser Verbindungen, die entsprechenden Ausgangs- und Zwischenprodukte und die Verwendung der neuen Verbindungen in der Schädlingsbekämpfung, insbesondere zur Bekämpfung von Insekten und Vertretern der Ordnung Akarina, speziell von Schadinsekten in Reiskulturen. New substituted N-pyridylmethyl-N] '- cyanoguanidines of the formula wherein R 1 and R 3 are independently hydrogen or C 1 -C 4 alkyl; R 2 is hydrogen, C 1 -C 4 alkyl, benzyl or picolyl; or R 1 and R 2 together represent a residue (̵CH 2 ) ̵ 2 or (̵CH 2 ) ̵ 2 or R2 and R3 together represent a radical (̵CH 2 ) ̵ 4 or (̵ CH2 ) ̵ 5 ; X halogen; and n is a number 0, 1, 2 or 3; mean, and the salts of compounds of the formula; with the exception of N-picolyl-N-methyl-N-cyanoguanidine and N-picolyl-N'-methyl-N'-cyanoguanidine. Processes for the preparation of these compounds, the corresponding starting and intermediate products and the use of the new compounds in pest control are described, in particular for controlling insects and representatives of the Akarina order, especially pest insects in rice crops.
