titleOfInvention ANTI-INFECTIOUS COMPOUNDS AND METHOD OF USE.
abstract Compound and method inhibiting the development of mycobacteria. The method includes treating humans or animals with the compound. The present invention also includes a composition useful in the treatment of bacterial infections and consisting of a mixture of a nonionic block copolymer and a conventional antibiotic. Several conventional antibiotics which can be used with the nonionic copolymer are refampin, isoniazid, ethambutol, gentamicin, tetracycline and erythromycin, this list not being exhaustive. The present invention also includes a method of treating a viral infection in a human or animal, including infections caused by the HLTV-III virus or strains of virus related to the HLTV-III virus. The present invention comprises a surfactant copolymer, which is preferably a condensation product of ethylene oxide-propylene oxide having the following general formula: HO (C2H4O) b (C3H6O) a (C2H4O) bH, in which a is an integer such that the hydrophobic represented by (C3H6O) has a molecular weight from 1200 to 4000 approximately, preferably 1750 to 3500 approximately, and b is an integer such that the hydrophilic portion represented by (C2H4O) constitutes approximately 10% to 50% by weight of the compound.
