A method of controlling nematode infection in animals and a composition therefor |
abstract |
The number of parasitic infectious nematodes of animals in an environment inhabited by animals susceptible to infection by nematodes can be reduced by the administration to said animals of a fungal substance (mycelium or spores) of a fungus (in particular predator) destroyer of nematodes, so as to bring in the faeces of animals a sufficient quantity of the fungal substance destructive of nematodes. In order to ensure a sufficiently high viability of the fungal substance during its passage through the digestive tract of the animal, the composition is formulated in such a way that the fungal substance is protected against gastrointestinal fluids, for example by the presence of an appropriate coating on the fungal substance or by its incorporation in a suitable matrix. |
