An improved method for assaying an amphipathic analyte, such as a lipoprotein or a lipopolysaccharide, is provided in which the lipophilic ends of bipolar molecules are bound to a substantially homogeneous lipophilic surface of a solid substrate, orienting hydrophilic epitopes of the analytes into the assay medium. The method results in more accurate and efficient quantitation of amphipathic analytes, such as antigens diagnostic of Chlamydia tracomatis, Chlamydia psittaci, Neisseria gonorrhea, or Escherichia coli. |
