abstract An agent for treating a coated surface, which contains at least one member selected from the group consisting of metal alkoxides represented by general formula: M(OR) n , (wherein M represents at least one metal atom selected from the group consisting of metal atoms of the groups Illb, IV, and Va of the periodic table, R represents at least one member selected from the group consisting of straight-chain or branched and saturated or unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbyl groups containg 1 to 22 carbon atoms), their homopolymers (average degree of condensation: 2 to 10), and their copolymers (average degree of condensation: 2 to 10). This agent is useful as polishing agent with stain-preventing properties to be applied on the surface of vehicles, aircraft, office furniture, etc.
