abstract R' und R 2 bedeuten darin gleiche oder verschiedene, geradkettige oder verzweigte Alkyl- oder AlkenylGruppen mit k bis 16 C-Atomen, mit oder ohne asymmetrisches C-Atom, worin auch eine oder mehrere nicht benachbarte -Ch 2 -Gruppen durch -0- und/oder -S- ersetzt sein können, -A und -B bedeuten jeweilsn n oder wobei jeweils die Reste R 1 , R 2 am Phenylenteil von -A, -B sitzen und m und n bedeuten 0 oder 1, aber m und n nicht gleichzeitig 1, mit folgenden Maßgaben:n a) für m = n = 0 ist k = 8 und in R 2 ist die dem Phenylkern nächste -CH 2 -Gruppe durch -0- ersetzt; b) für m = 1 und n = 0 ist k = 2, und c) für m = 0 und n = 1 ist k = 2 und in R 2 ist die dem Phenylkern nächste -CH 2 -Gruppe durch -0- ersetzt. The new liquid-crystalline 5-phenylpyrimidine derivatives have an S c or S c * phase and are represented by the general formula (I) described in which the symbols have the following meaning: R 'and R 2 mean the same or different, straight-chain or branched alkyl or alkenyl groups with k to 16 carbon atoms, with or without an asymmetric carbon atom, in which one or more non-adjacent -Ch 2 groups are represented by -0- and / or -S- can be replaced, -A and -B each mean or where in each case the radicals R 1 , R 2 are located on the phenylene part of -A, -B and m and n are 0 or 1, but m and n are not 1 at the same time, with the following provisions: a) for m = n = 0, k = 8 and in R 2 the -CH 2 group closest to the phenyl nucleus is replaced by -0-; b) for m = 1 and n = 0, k = 2, and c) for m = 0 and n = 1, k = 2 and in R 2 the -CH 2 group closest to the phenyl nucleus is replaced by -0-.
