abstract |
A method for sensitizing mammalian tumor cells nwhich comprises the step of inserting a drug sensitivity ngene into the tumor cell. Also disclosed is the use of nhypoxanthine phosphoribosyltransferase for the treatment nof leukemia when the drug 6-thioguanine is used. The method nemploys a composition of matter which includes a 3′ long nterminal repeat and a 5′ long terminal repeat, each repeat ncontaining a restriction enzyme site; between the repeats nis inserted a promoter and/or enhancer gene and the drug nsensitivity gene. All of the elements of the DNA are nlinked and spatially positioned, such that, when the gene nis inserted into a target cell the drug sensitivity gene nis expressed. |
